Post Speeding is the #1 problem in St. John's? lmao

Quote:
In terms of traffic issues, one city councillor sees speeding as the single biggest problem in St. John's. Bruce Tilley says the problem has steadily increased in the last ten years, particularly during the lean years when enforcement was stretched due to a shortage of police officers. Tilley says it helps to issue speeding tickets, but he also wants to see a public education campaign.

soooo i think its time we kick all those old farts out of the city council and put in a home where they belong, honestly i find this too funny. The single biggest traffic problem in St. Johns is Speeding? seriously, what planet is this guy living on. Sure id agree that its a problem sometimes but its far from #1, theres sooooooo many other issues traffic related that takes the cake on this.
Heres my list.

#1 - Piss poor road conditions & improper repairs, the roads are full of potholes, cracks, bumps and dips, and what makes it worse, they are either never repaired or when they are its done half assed and never lasts. Anyone drive the length of Pippy place lately, i give the pippy place area my vote for the worse roads in the city, excluding downtown of course.
#2 - Lack of Driver Education, How many Drivers know know to yield, merge, change lanes or use a friggin 4 way stop? half the drivers in this city dont have a sweet clue what the hell they are doing, if we could somehow educate these mouth breathers or take them off the roads completely we would solve a good chuck of the traffic issues in this city.
#3 - Improper usage of traffic lights, is there really a need of 9 sets of lights on kenmount road? or the 300 sets on topsail road?
#4 - Poor City Planning - so lets build a sub division and instead of putting the entrance a few 100 meters further down the road and tie it into an existing traffic light, we'll install a new one and further put a fu*k to the flow of traffic, Or well start a new development knowing fully in advance there will be requiring water/sewer lines, but instead of placing them while its under construction and having them there in the ground ready for use, we'll wait for the road to be paved then we'll dig it up and do a horrible job repairing it, and in 3 years we'll come back and dig up the road yet again, we'll call it "upgrades". I guess #4 kinds goes along with #3.

I just got myself too worked up to think so i only got 4, lol

Exactly Anthony, I can't remember the last time I heard of an accident due to speeding in St. John's. I'd say the opposite is more of a problem. I use Columbus Drive every day to go to school and back, and my number 1 complaint there is people trundling along at 50. It's a 70km/h zone people!!

That and people who don't know that they have to go into the lane closest to them when turning. How many times do I almost get hit by some joker taking a left turn at a light and going straight into the outside lane. I almost get hit a lot at that, and the worst part is they think its your fault.

I agree 110% with everything you said. Even newly paved roads are terrible in some cases. You shouldn't have a huge drop everytime there's a man hole. Feels like a race track driving around this city trying to dodge everything.

Don't get me started on the lights......The new lights there by terra nova motors is the worst ones around imo. They are red almost everytime I go on kenmount road, and it doesn't matter if there are any cars going the other way or not. Not to mention they are extremely long. Takes forever to get any where now.

Finally, most drivers are idiots when it comes to merging. The clover leaf for the TCH and pitts is the worst I seen. Everyone comes around the ramps and comes to a complete stop before merging. Seriously, the point of those lanes are to give you a chance to get your speed up to enter the highway. The one coming off TCH into donovans is ridiculous as well. Surprised I haven't hit anyone yet. Came close numerous times on those lanes

It goes to show how out of touch these people are with the city. I can think of alot worse problems besides speeding....Hmmm lets see... INFERIOR POLICING......ROAD CONDITIONS OR POT HOLES...SKEETS....LACK OF INFASTRUCTURE A.K.A. NO DAMN WATER IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER MONTHS...OH NOT TO MENTION THE WORLDS BIGGEST CESS POOL. GOOD OLE ST.JOHNS HARBOUR...I could go on..

The lights at Terra Nova Motors are so bad because they are activated by traffic on the lot! Do it make sense to anybody else that traffic on one of the more busy streets in St. John's is controlled by traffic on an automotive parking lot?!

Maybe the points you listed cause more frequent issues, but speeding(reckless driving) is the most deadly.

LOL he didn't say speeding is the biggest problem(in general) in St. John's.

He said "In terms of traffic issues...".

One of the biggest problems is people driving behind you trying ass rape you like seriously back at least a few car lengths. This morning on the outer ring there was someone behind me and from paradise right until thorburn she was literally about 2 feet behind me, and of course like every morning traffic slows down near the thorburn turn off, I came to a gradual slow down and when i looked in the rearview to ensure i wasnt going to get creamed she had actually had to turn off into the median to avoid me, and the fella behind her had to do the same to avoid her, come on by you cant drive bumper to bumper doing 120 jesus christ. These people need to rear end a dumptruck to learn their lesson without hurting someone else in the process lol

Of course speeding is an issue, how many people do you see blazing through a red light when they have tons of time to stop, providing they weren't doing 90 in a 50.

Look at the parking lots as well, they are like freaking race tracks. Some tool almost ran me over in the Sobeys parking lot while I was on the crosswalk. God forbid you have to walk any distance from your car to the door, lazy bastards.

People go cracked on the ORR. You get morons that excessively speed, other morons that don't know how to merge, more morons that enter/exit merge lanes before they are supposed to and morons that will pull out in front of cars with only a few feet to spare between the car ahead of them and the car behind them.

It also drives me nuts when people slow down to 20km/h to stare at people on the side of the road. This morning 2 guys were pulled over on the left hand side, it looked like they were discussing an accident but there was no visible damage. If a vehicle is pulled over with lots of room to spare on the curb and they don't appear to be in an accident, kindly fuck off and keep cruising along, nosy bastards. If someone is on the side of the road I couldn't be bothered with their business unless they look like they need a hand.

I came to a dead stop in the passing lane on the Outer Ring road today...Seriously.
All Traffic stopped just before the Thorborne rd turnoff, except for the slow lane.

That's not the first time that has happened there either....What the fuck gives?!

This is perfectly normal driving. You merge where the space is available. If motorists on the highway were a little less combative to mergers, this wouldn't have to happen. I squeeze my car into traffic every morning and will continue to do so. If said motorists dont want me squeezing in between 2 cars, than they should give mergers more room. IT is a merge, after all, not a stop. I wont stop just because I dont have enough room to make you comfortable.
