Some HIDs in reflector housings can be much better than others depending on the shield they come with on the bulb.

I had HIDs in my stock housings for a couple of weeks while waiting for my projectors to arrive. (VVME was the kit name). The shield on the kit was amazing. Light cut off was identical to the factory halogen bulbs. No extra glare or stray light.

However, once the projectors were installed the output was much better and the cut off was a ridiculously straight line.

Colin, you might consider doing a RetroFit in your stock housings if there are no aftermarket projector headlight assemblies for your car. That is if you want projectors. A lot of people eBay TL projectors.

I think there are many variables to be considered but the key factor for HIDs in reflectors is proper shields and aiming.

HIDs in projectors are the only way to go IMO, but you have to experience both before you can.......................... "see the light".... literally.

I have HID's in my integra which came with stock projectors for the low beams... I must say after driving integra's with normal halogen's versus mine there is no replacement. I get the odd person who flashes me however it's usually when I'm coming down a hill and they are coming up. I also have them in my high beams for the purpose of highway driving as I spend about 3-4 nights a week driving the highway. However late in the evening with heavy traffic I've comfortably drove with just my lows on and was able to see perfectly. I've also had silverstars and nighthawks in other vehicles and nothing compares.

Driving my friends integra with stock halogens, the low beam I found was virtually useless. Doing any speed over 60, or driving in dark areas highbeams were a must. But I have to agree, using projectors is definately the way to go. I've been blinded many times by people with them in stock reflector housings and I wonder why someone doesn't spend the extra couple of hundred to even buy a cheap set of projectors from ebay, I'm sure they will suffice and save oncoming motorists the headache.

If I make a complaint to the cops, will they actually do anything?

LOL, I can see them rolling out the half the squad to look for this guy then. Some people are just idiots. "Look, my trucks lights are bright as fuck and a shade off purple. SICK!"
